Impact Report

Jan - May 22

At Novus, we're on a mission to create a world of endless opportunities – harnessing the collective power of our spending to transform lives, save species and regenerate nature.

In our first Impact Report, you'll find our data for the quarter, as well as further insights into some of the projects we’ve helped to fund to date.

Together, this is what we've achieved in over the last 4 months since we launched the Novus app!

Partners

We enable our members to support the most pressing social and environmental issues through our network of highly efficient and transparent charitable partners:

Project Highlight

charity:water

charity:water is a non-profit organisation with the mission of bringing clean and safe water to people around the world who don’t have access to it.

Clean water impacts health, education, gender equality and economic opportunities.

Since its foundation in 2006, charity:water has founded 91,414 water projects which will serve 14,762, 215 people in 29 countries.

Carbon Offsetting

Our members are able to track their daily carbon emissions, and consequently offset their remaining carbon footprint in-app with the most effective carbon reduction projects.

In our first 4 months, our community has taken action to collectively offset 85,805 kilograms of carbon emissions.

85,805 kg carbon offset

On an average, this is equal to:

Run the dishwasher 86,671 times at 65ºC
619,978 km driven in a medium diesel car
343 one way trips from London to Madrid

Project Highlight

Wind power generation Bac Lieu Province, Vietnam

Demand for electricity in Vietnam has grown by an average of 10% each year over the past five years and continues to grow. Despite that 26% of Vietnam’s energy is currently generated from hydroelectric plants, still a great amount (over half of their electricity) is generated from coal.

Thus, this project aims to generate 320,000 MWh of renewable electricity every year and feed it into Vietnam’s national grid, helping to bridge the gap between supply and demand that currently exists. Also, by replacing electricity generated from fossil fuel fired power plants with electricity generated using wind power, this project will prevent around 143,000 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere every year.

Lifestyle

What we spend our money on matters - we want to make it easy to find ethical options when you need to buy something new.

We have welcomed over 130 brands onto our ethical brand marketplace to date, across homeware, clothing, travel, food & drink, beauty and more. As part of our due diligence we ask these partners to provide specific details on their sustainability practices and certifications.

Here are a few examples of certifications that are held by different brands across our network:

Brand Highlight

Brewgooder ensures that every sip of their beers helps empower the lives of others. They are also partnered with one of our NGO partners, charity:water, and believe waves of change don’t come any greater than providing someone with clean and safe water. For every can of their beer sold, they provide 100 times that volume in clean water. Thus far Brewgooder has funded over 140 projects, providing over 100,000,000 litres of clean water and empowering the lives of 155,920 people.
An example of one of their projects: Waluma is a village situated in the Thyolo District of Malawi, whose residents previously had to travel 1.5km to source water from an unprotected and shallow well. Waterborne diseases were rampant as a result of this poor access to water, impacting the health and thus productivity of Malawi people living in Waluma. Thanks to Brewgooder drinkers, there was a new water point built early this year. It has transformed the lives of this community, from reducing health related incidents to allowing for more time to carry out farming and development work.
